Hoooolly SHHIIITT!!! We've been wanting to try this place for a couple years and it did not disappoint. Had 1/2 a bird Southern, hot sauce on the side since sweat heavily on spicy. Hot sauces very good and not too hot for this wussy. Also shared the shrimp and grits.... fantastic! Banana Pie fab, enough real whipped cream to cover a whole pie, but can you ever have too much whipped cream? Service was prompt and regular, food came quickly, and she was very friendly. Great value and great food!
Tried this for the first time because I had a burning need to eat fried chicken and know we won't be able to go anywhere for a long time. We got the full bird to go with some mac and cheese and biscuits. It was scrumptious, deep-fried, Tennessee hot (not really hot) poultry haven. We loved the sweet pickle on top and it was a pleasant surprise. Definitely worth the 1-hour wait - so keep that in mind with to-go orders. Can't wait to give it another try someday...
Im giving Revival a 4 Star because I honestly had no complaints about the food or service but I will still critique the restaurant. Ambiance: First I visited in the dead of the summer so Patio seating was available. The patio is shaded with trees in the middle and edges of the courtyard. There was also an uncovered dish rack, which i found to be extremely misplaced because it was under some trees. Dirty much? I also found out they have no restroom open to the public and I ended up having to go across the street mid meal. The trash is also out side in that same area. Food: I was in the mood for Nashville hot chicken and its the reason I chose Revival so that is what I ordered along side collard greens, mac and cheese, and a roll. The greens were delicious and amazingly flavored with no meat. The mac and cheese was not my grandmothers and i would not praise it past being a descent side. The chicken was also served with traditional dill pickles. It comes in the option of 2 pieces mixed or 2 pieces of all white meat, half bird and whole bird with flavor options of Nashville hot, southern fried, poultrygeist or gluten friendly. I can only review the Nashville hot which was spicy but not at the level I have had from Hattie B's. It tasted like a copy cat but was still satisfying. Overall my meal was good and i was not disappointed.
Will give revival another shot but first time in was less than spectacular. Started with chicken livers as a starter which were great and an insane amount they easily could have been enough for a meal. Loved that. Our server wasn't very talkative and being our first time in we would have liked to have someone that could've given us some go-to's but hey no biggie. The issue came when we didn't receive our food for over an hour after the chicken livers came out. After about 45 minutes instead of the server letting us know that they made a mistake he just kept saying it's about up. Finally received our chicken and sides after about hour and fifteen minutes. I understand mistakes happen but just be honest about it and I would have no problem whatsoever but to keep dragging us on was alittle frustrating. But hey he comped one beer since that's the only thing we could do for an hour was drink I guess that was an apology and much appreciated. Stuff happens no biggie chicken was tender, flavor was middle of the road and I wasn't a fan of the two sauces on the table. Next time I'll bring my hot sauce. Living close to this restaurant hopefully I will have a great experience next time I'm in!
I'm a sucker for fried chicken (especially with waffles), and this place gets a double stamp of approval. We got the chicken + waffles ($17), chicken + waffle breakfast sandwich ($13), Tennessee hot fried chicken thigh ($12), and sides of hush puppies, mac + cheese and collard greens ($6 each). Chicken + Waffles: The chicken is perfectly crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside. The waffle seems standard, but why mess with something that works? I'd say the breakfast sandwich is a better deal than the entree version for one person. The portion size is definitely larger for the entree (I couldn't even finish it), but you'll still leave plenty full on the breakfast sandwich. Sides: Collard greens! Yes, the hush puppies and mac + cheese were good too, but the collard greens are to die for. I'm sure these are on anyone's top greens in the Minneapolis area.
Absolutely in love with Revivals Tennessee Hot chicken and their Mac & cheese. Seriously thee best. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on their menu. It's southern comfort food at its finest. This space is really smalll so it might be best to come with a smaller group. Or by yourself if you're cool with that. The servers are really nice and attentive. Even though it's small, there's a family owned type of vibe. Food is made fresh and comes out piping hot. They also have a variety of alcoholic beverages as well. I usually come on weekdays when they're not as busy. Evenings fill up fast so get here early.
Revival has become a Minneapolis staple and a must visit for any Minnesota native or someone visiting. You wouldn't think of southern fried chicken and tradition soul food sides like Mac and Cheese, Collard Greens, and White Cheddar Grits when you think Minnesota but this place gives the south a run for its money. The chicken is AMAZING. No matter if you go with a 2 pc or half bird or whole bird all the pieces are huge. Extra juicy pieces of chicken ridiculously coated and fried to crunchy perfection. I like to go with the Tennessee Hot but if you want to brave the heat bump up to the Poltrygeist. If chicken isn't your thing go for the burger. This juicy delight comes in single, double and triple with melty cheddar cheese on each patty topped with house made sweet pickles inside a soft pillowy bun. I recommend double or triple. To be honest I can ever decide between the chicken and the burger and always end up with the 2 pc and a double burger. It's ALOT of food but it's soooo good I always eat it all.
How can you not love the original location. I have been to location many times but, last night I went and we discussed how much we enjoy this place and how it's a Minnesota Staple. When people visit from our of town Revival is a must for recommendation. I love the fries chicken. My favorite is Tennessee hot! It's crispy, juicy, and tender with a litter kick. The poltrygeist can be HOT! Like really hot but my boyfriend disagrees. He can handle it a lot better than me, and I really like spicy. The Mac and Cheese is my favorite side! It's cheesy goodness warms my Wisconsin heart. The cheddar grits are also super delicious. Desert? Oh yeah, they rock that too! My person favorite is the banana cream pie. It's so good! The butter Scotch Pie is also fantastic. My only gripe is the beer menu is too small! But I don't go for the beer. I go for the amazing food!
Let me just say that I'm not normally a fan of fried chicken but I LOVED Revival Chicken. (I was tempted to order their burger, because the table next to us got one and it looked amazing) but as a first visit, we had to go with the chicken. It was the perfect amount of breading with a super tender & juicy chicken on the inside. My boyfriend was honestly mad I talked us out of getting the whole bird because even though we were full off the half bird and 2 sides, we didn't want to be done eating. Our only disappointment is that the waitress steered us to the tennessee hot, but they were NOT hot in our opinion. We would order the hottest poultrygeist flavor next time. The hush puppies were delicious too. As a Wisconsin native and cheese snob, while it was good, I wouldn't say their mac + cheese is anything special.
Revival is true southern cooking in the Midwest at its finest! The chicken and waffles are to die for, and the rest of the menu screams southern comfort like nothing else in the Twin Cities. Although cheese curds are a staple throughout the region, their slight twist on them makes the dish stand out from the rest. The service has always been fast and friendly every visit I've made. The Nicolette location is rather small so make sure you get there early if you want to minimize your wait during peak weekend times. Otherwise, weeknight seating has always been quick with minimal wait. If you're in the mood for some comfort look no further than Revival!
The chicken and waffles are to die for! Fresh baked waffles! Real maple syrup. Juicy tender chicken with crisp fried coating. Everything from scratch, beautiful presentation. House made pickles are crisp, flavorful, and beautiful. Homemade Mac and cheese is probably the best I've had (and I've had a lot). Biscuits and honey butter are decent. A little too heavy and rich; I prefer fluffier. I'm a food snob and am a little ashamed to admit this, but I prefer KFC and Chick-Fil-A biscuits. But everything else is amazing!
Where to start? I've been wanting to try Revival for a long time. Today was the day and it was not a disappointment. Walked in and was greeted immediately I was told to sit anywhere Id like. I was given aa menu and I explained I was waiting on the beautiful Mrs. The interior was nice not over the top. The Mrs. arrived and the feeding frenzy started. We started with the fried green tomatoes. It came with 4 perfectly fried green tomatoes. They sat atop some pickle sauce. Well seasoned and very flavorful. On the side sat a nice little salad with thIn sliced radishes. The dressing was a buttermilk ranch that definitely tasted homemade. We got the chicken and waffle breakfast sandwich along with the half bird to share. Now I thought I've had great fried chicken until today. Today I had the best. Perfectly fried. Juicy meat, crispy not over cooked skin. We also got the white cheddar grits. Good consistency and perfect flavor. I'm not a huge grits fan but this makes me like them even more. We also got some hush puppies. Perfect sweetness with a great dipping sauce. Now the chicken and waffle sandwich was mind blowing. Perfectly cooked chicken. Light and fluffy waffle. The added honey butter and just the right amount of maple syrup made me want to order another to bring home. They don't take reservations and we have tried to eat here during busy times. The wait can be long but I can honestly say waiting is well worth it.
I've been here before for a sit down menu which was good. That said, I will not be dining here again after my latest experience with take-out. Aside from the 10 times I had to keep giving my name and waiting 20 minutes after the estimated time they gave for pick-up, my food was overcooked and cold!!!! My "cheese" biscuits were lacking any cheese. I would have been better off making my own canned biscuits. They were hard, dry and gross. My chicken was greasy and cold. And, lastly, my mac and cheese was overcooked and all the ingredients were separated like it has been sitting out. So, what took so long to get my order together if everything was cold and had been previously cooked? HIGHLY SUGGEST STAYING AWAY from ordering here.
Tasty fried chicken, but there is just something missing still. After seeing Revival on The Daily Meal's 75 Best Fried Chicken Places in America, my wife and I decided to visit it during our short trip to Minneapolis. Luckily, we were able to walk in and immediately score a table on a Saturday afternoon at 1:45pm. The restaurant wasn't too big and from the looks of it, it was at full capacity when we arrived. The menu was pretty basic, with appetizers, chicken, entrees, sandwiches and sides, with the main focus of the menu squarely on the fried chicken. Our main goal here was to just have fried chicken and maybe a few sides and that's exactly what we stuck with. I ended up ordering a 2 piece fried chicken and my wife ordered the chicken + waffle breakfast sandwich. In addition, we ordered 3 sides to share. 2 PIECE FRIED CHICKEN - Yes, 2 pieces is as sad as it looks. Unfortunately, the restaurant didn't have a 3 or 4 piece option, so I was stuck between ordering the 2 or 5 piece and 5 pieces was just too much in my mind. The fried chicken (chicken thigh and chicken leg) was served on top of a piece of white bread, but the white bread was merely just a waste of space on my plate. The fried chicken was really good though - well-fried, flavorful and juicy. It wasn't amazingly great, but it was good. CHICKEN + WAFFLE BREAKFAST SANDWICH - The sandwich came with a fried chicken thigh in the middle, sunny-side egg, white gravy, honey butter and syrup and it was delicious. If you want something to post on your Instagram from here, this is it. The sandwich, which was basically a chicken and waffle dish, was every bit as good as it sounded. Sure, you'll feel like you just ate 10,000 calories, but your taste buds will thank you for it. HUSH PUPPIES - We saw this quite a lot from other Yelp reviewers, so felt it was popular and ordered it. BIG MISTAKE. This was as big of a disappointment as we have had for something we thought would be good. The hush puppies were overly cooked and just tasted like burned wood. MAC + CHEESE - It seems that the restaurant first cooked the mac and cheese on a stovetop and then baked it a bit to get some crunchiness on top. We weren't fans of it though because it was just too watery. COLLARD GREENS - The best of the 3 sides we ordered. Solid collard greens and trademark bitterness hit the mark. Revival was a solid restaurant, but something was just lacking. The fried chicken was good, but not remarkable. The chicken + waffle sandwich was really delicious though, but it's probably something that could easily be made somewhere else. It felt like we were at any typical fried chicken restaurant and nothing stood out. Everything was just a good ol' fashion good.
Oooh for all of you fried Chicken connoisseur like me, this place is gonna be heaven! I did like all flavors of the fried chicken, the simple southern fried is my favorite. If you are a big party, splitting a whole bird is worth sharing. It consists ten pieces. My favorite sides were the mash potatoes, glazed carrots, pickles, and cheese curds. Pass on the hush puppies, Mac n cheese, and red beans & rice. The place is very small and prepare to wait for a table. I came on a Saturday at 5 pm with 6 people and waited an hour for a table.
Really great place to stop in for lunch. The Bird is great to share with a group and the mash potatoes are soooo good. They are pretty busy so keep that in mind when you are going. Fun vibe overall and great service. check it out !
Great place to go for a night out with friends. Came in a weekend and the wait was 45 min for a table or 6. We grabbed cocktails from the bar (which were great and served on bar ice) and chatted standing. The wait ended up being 1.5 hrs because the table before us lingered. Staff provided free appetizers because of it, which was a nice gesture. The fried chicken is consistently good. There are veggie options too. Only reason I don't give five stars is that the seating is a bit uncomfortable--prefer soft, linen chairs and warmer lighting. Otherwise a good, solid choice.
Okay okay okay. Can I just talk about my experience real quick? I went to grab dinner solo Saturday night and the place was packed! Folks waiting outside and no room inside. I said no problem I'll come back. Cam back this morning with my eyes set on the chicken and waffles. I get there right at 11 go to the counter and order the Tennessee chicken and waffle breakfast sandwich with a wide of hush puppies! And some homemade pickles. The staff this morning was so so kind and sweet and very helpful with the menu and any questions I had. The place my order to tell me that the batter for the waffles weren't ready! I was almost in tears because I wanted to try this so bad and have waited to get this item for so long and felt the world was against me. I left walked around the street and as I was about to give up the manager comes running out to say the batter has just been completed! With joy I was able to try the dish and man was it worth every mile, penny, moment of wait. This place has a name for a reason! You will not leave unhappy or hungry. Also a big spice girl and they have enough spice for even the spice master.
Found this Very cute and small space while in town. Feels homey. It does get packed and can be a little loud. The staff were great and attentive. Everything on the menu sounded delicious but I went with the their house favorite. They do serve beer and wines with good selection. I ordered the 1. Brussels sprouts: crispy brussel sprout with creamy caeser with anchovy, parmesan, red onion and croutons. 2. Tennessee hot chicken + waffles with a side of honey butter and real maple syrup. The best chicken and waffle I've tasted. Flavor has a great spicy kicked to it. Came with 3 pieces of chicken. The waffle was perfectly made. Overall, mouthwatering.
Revival has the best fried chicken in town. You can choose between three different heats depending on how spicy you like it. The first is just the "southern fried", that's just fried chicken with no heat. The second is "Tennessee hot", this heat has just the right spiciness. Then there is "Poultrygeist", I've never had it and probably never will, but if you like your mouth on fire may be this is the one for you. There Mac-n-cheese is pretty cheesy but not the best flavor I've had, may be if they tried a different cheese blend with a sharper cheese, but that just me. The cheesy biscuits were very moist and a nice amount of cheese on top. Now for the entree, I got the chicken and waffle sandwich. I believe it was a chicken thigh and I wish it was a breast, however it was still perfectly fried. The waffle fries as outstanding as well and they have a very nice tasting maple syrup and honey butter. Sometimes the wait can be long here so if you hungry allow for some time or arrive early.
